Tips for Painting Exteriors

Painting the exterior of your home or any outside building entails a lot of work. If you are going to make it look presentable with some great results, then you won't be able to just slap some new paint on and expect the job to look professional.

You first must prepare the surface, and this process sometimes takes longer than the actual painting itself. If you have wrinkles in your structure or defects, you may want to think about hiring a professional.

You will first need to wash your existing surface, or sand away any loose or flaking paint. Fill any holes or dents, and any problem areas should be fixed before applying the paint. You can use a water hose, and then use a stiff bristled brush with a solution of mild detergent and water to get off any left residue.

Be sure to wear some eye protection, along with rubber gloves. Let the area completely dry, and you can use an extended roller to apply the paint, or using a paint gun will make the job go much easier if you are adapt at applying paint this way. Be sure that you have a sufficient amount of paint, so the sprayer will perform right, and always check for possible runs in each application.
