The holidays are the perfect time to think about gift giving, and these healthy meat flavored biscuits make the perfect gift for pet owners. Your dog will be smacking its lips when they get a taste of these beefy dog biscuits.
You will need 1 package of active dry yeast, 1/4 cup of warm water, 1 teaspoon of beef bouillon granules, 2 tablespoons of boiling water, 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup nonfat dry milk powder, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup cooked long grain rice, 1 envelope unflavored gelatin, 1 baby food jar vegetable beef dinner, 1 egg, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil.
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. In another small bowl, dissolve bouillon in boiling water. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, milk powder, wheat flour, rice, and gelatin. stir in the baby food, egg, oil, yeast mixture, and bouillon mixture until combined; knead until mixture forms a ball.
Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a floured 2 inch bone shaped cookie cutter, or one of your choice. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 300 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until set. Remove to wire racks to cool. Let stand for 24 hours or until they are hard. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 3 dozen. This recipe is from Lori Kimble of Mascoutah, Illinois.
