A great family outdoor activity is camping. There are state parks in every state in the Union. State parks offer a ton of activities for kids as well as adults. They have clean restrooms with hot showers, small grocery stores and tackle shops. Many offer planned activities like a movie night. You will also find playgrounds, hiking trails and boat launches. If you have an RV instead of a tent, state parks also have hook-ups for electricity, water and/or dump stations. There is a wonderful website, gocamping.com, where you can find a park for camping in any state.
Trout fishing is another outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy. The great thing about trout fishing is that you don’t need a boat. You can fish right from the shore with a box of hooks, worms, and a pair of waders. Anyone 16 or older must have a fishing license and trout stamp. You will want to have #10-#14 hooks so you can hide the hook with the bait. A light rod about 4-5 feet in length with a spincasting reel is a great choice for tackle.
Backpacking or hiking is a popular outdoor activity. There are many health benefits to walking in the outdoors. Hiking is much more than just an ordinary walk in the neighborhood. When taking off on a hike, the proper gear to wear is sturdy hiking boots and a hat. The boots will help prevent injury when walking over rugged terrain and the hat will help protect you from the sun. You will have a great adventure when hiking, often seeing sights that are not seen on regular outings.
